DISTRICT 9 BBQ AT VA CLINIC MARTINEZ
District 9, including Post 246, hosted its annual BBQ for the Martinez VA Clinic in-patients and staff on Sunday, 8 Oct. It was a great opportunity to step up the American Legion slogan of "continuing to serve". Special thanks go out to our members Mark Heinemann, Bob Sada, Henry Miguel, Randy and Carol Reid, and Eric and Mary Ardell who help bring a little joy to these in-patient veterans. 12 November, Monday - Veterans Day Observance. Event is held at San Ramon Valley High School Performing Arts Center and will recognize veterans who have participated in Humanitarian Operations. Doors open at 9:30 am; loop video show starts at 10:00 am; program will start at 11:00 am.
BOYS AND GIRLS STATE RECOGNITION LUNCHEON
The luncheon was a big success! Thanks to the great efforts of Michelle Lee and Alan Scharlach in putting on the event. Thank you also to those members who attended and help put the program on.
This year all of our delegates held offices, notably our Girls State ambassador from Dougherty Valley High was elected Governor!
Ken Mintz, SRV Unified School District, commented afterwards that he was glad he came to the event and was very impressed with the program and students.
EAST BAY STAND DOWN
EBSD dates are September 13-16, 2018 at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton.
WORLD WAR I ARMISTICE CENTENIAL
11 November, Sunday -11:00 am - World War I Armistice Centennial (1918-2018) Observance Program at the VMB. In recognition of the significance of the Armistice, The World War I Centennial Commission has announced a nationwide effort ("Bells of Peace") encouraging citizens, organizations, churches, etc. to toll bells at 11:00 am on Sunday, November 11. VETERAN'S DAY WEEKEND
10-12 November - Veterans Day Weekend. Bob Sada and the museum committee are looking for display items from World War I, the TET Offensive in the Vietnam War, and Peace and Humanitarian Operations. Please take a good look and let Bob know as soon as you can.

CATHARINE BAKER PANCAKE BREAKFAST
3 November, Saturday - Catharine Baker Pancake Breakfast for veterans. All veterans are invited to come to the VMB for a full pancake breakfast cooked and served by Catharine Baker and her staff. Veterans only event.
2018 VETERAN'S BREAKFAST
Pledge to Humanity and the San Ramon Valley Varsity Basketball team served up a great pancake breakfast for some 40 of our Danville veterans on Saturday, 13 January. It was a great meal and great conversation with the 15 team members, coaches and parents that put on the event. If you missed it you missing a great function. We hope to do it again.
VETERAN'S MEMORIAL BUILDING FUNDRAISER
6 Aug -The proceeds from this event fund our operations of the VMB and thus avoids the individual VSOs providing that funding. So come out enjoy a great Italian dinner all graciously served to you by your fellow veterans! Leave big tips!! Call Gianni's for a reservation.
