EAST BAY STAND DOWN


EBSD dates are September 13-16, 2018 at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton.
If you are interested in volunteering for the many different functions, we suggest you attend one of the community meetings indicated below to get more information.

EBSD Community Meeting, 12 June 2018
 
Introductions – I advised that I was representing American Legion Mt. Diablo Post 246 and presented the $500.00 check from Post 246 to sponsor a tent for EBSD participating veterans.  The EBSD web site has included Post 246 as a tent sponsor.
Logistics – Mike Weber requested a coordinator for hygiene to oversee maintenance of personal hygiene stations and portable toilets.  The Fremont Elks Lodge volunteered members of her organization.  Plan to set up the tents on Tuesday and Wednesday, 11 and 12 Sept.  Need (preferably, younger) volunteers to set up and to tear down/pressure wash sleeping cots and tents on Sunday, 16 Sept.
Food – Dave Ham requested 90 cases of water for dental and medical service usage and 7,000 beverage cups and lids for cold beverages and paper plates.  Plan to set up kitchen tent on Tuesday, 11 Sept and kitchen on Wednesday, 12 Sept.   Received donations for and purchased new stoves in May 2018.
4.   Programming – Need volunteer to fill Activity Manager position.  Need to advise Shelley Clemens if anyone needs additional volunteers.
5.   Community Services – Need experienced volunteers to direct veterans to service organizations which are providing services (e.g., medical, dental, legal, etc.).  About 60 organizations are present from Thursday afternoon to Saturday evening.
6.   General – Encampment will support up to 400 veterans.  Los Positas College volunteered to help EBSD.  (Note: About 600 veterans attend Los Positas College.)  Web site opens 16 July 2018 for volunteers from the general public to sign up for service positions.  Next meeting is at 1800 21 August 2018 in the general meeting room at the Danville Veterans Memorial Building (Prospect Avenue entrance).

7.  Web site is open for volunteer signups from the general public for service positions.

BOYS AND GIRLS STATE LUNCHEON


7 October - Regular Meeting and Boys and Girls State luncheon.  Please come out show our support for this gifted and talented young men and women.  They will tell their stories about their experiences at this premier American legion Program.

VMB FUNDRAISER AT GIANNI'S RESTAURANT

District 9, including Post 246, hosted its annual BBQ for the Martinez VA Clinic in-patients and staff on Sunday, 8 Oct.  It was a great opportunity to step up the American Legion slogan of "continuing to serve".   Special thanks go out to our members Mark Heinemann, Bob Sada, Henry Miguel, Randy and Carol Reid, and Eric and Mary Ardell who help bring a little joy to these in-patient veterans.  Check out the event pictures on our website.  

A special big thank you to Mike Mundle and Dan O'Connor who represented our post as waiters for this event.

2018 VETERAN'S BREAKFAST


Pledge to Humanity and the San Ramon Valley Varsity Basketball team served up a great pancake breakfast for some 40 of our Danville veterans on Saturday, 13 January.   It was a great meal and great conversation with the 15 team members, coaches and parents that put on the event.  If you missed it you missing a great function.  We hope to do it again.  

VETERAN'S MEMORIAL BUILDING FUNDRAISER


6 Aug -The proceeds from this event fund our operations of the VMB and thus avoids the individual VSOs providing that funding.  So come out enjoy a great Italian dinner all graciously served to you by your fellow veterans!  Leave big tips!!  Call Gianni's for a reservation.

VETERAN'S DAY WEEKEND


10-12 November - Veterans Day Weekend.  Bob Sada and the museum committee are looking for display items from World War I, the TET Offensive in the Vietnam War, and Peace and Humanitarian Operations.  Please take a good look and let Bob know as soon as you can.
