Boy Scout Troops

On September 27, 2021, Alan Scharlach, Post 246 Scouting Representative, was honored to join in the first indoor Court of Honor in 18 months for BSA Troop 888. Over 100 family members, friends, and Scouts attended the ceremony at Gale Ranch Middle School in San Ramon . All wore masks; however, this did not put a damper on the event. Scouts stood at their seats when honored with their achievements for the year, having earned many merit badges and advanced ranks by completing requirements on-line and participating in a reduced number of hikes. Although Troop 888 Scouts did not achieve any Eagle Scout Awards, the Scouts still accomplished much. Ms. Carol Wilson, Unit Commissioner for the Golden Gate District Council, also congratulated the Scouts on their achievements.

On September 12, Boy Scout Troop 60 held a special Zoom meeting with San Ramon Mayor Bill Clarkson. Over 45 scouts attended the meeting asking insightful questions to the mayor. Those questions included the city’s response to COVID-19, the status and usage of parks and hiking trails, the regional wild fires and environmental changes, and city growth and expansion. Scoutmaster Jim Saunders and two of the Boy Scouts moderated the meeting. By participating in this Zoom meeting, scouts earned additional credit towards a Citizenship merit badge.
